What Are the Benefits of Cold and Flu Season Oral Health Treatments?

Posted .

When you are sick, it is important to always stay hydrated. Not only will hydration help you to fight off illness, it will keep your mouth much safer against the effects of tooth decay and gum disease.

If you vomit, harmful stomach acids will be present in your mouth that can damage your tooth enamel. However, toothbrushes and toothpaste should not be used immediately after because they can be too abrasive to your sensitive enamel. Instead after vomiting, use water, mouthwash, or try chewing sugarless gum to fight back against the effects of the acids present in your mouth.

When you are sick or have a cold or flu, continue brushing and flossing as necessary. This includes brushing twice daily and flossing once daily. Never share or use someone else’s toothbrush, as this can contribute to your sickness or spread your sickness to others. If you are using any form of cough drops always make sure they are sugar-free.
